about Ginny

Santa Cruz singer-songwriter Ginny Mitchell began singing in a choir at age four. Her musical life has since taken her across Canada and the United States with a five-piece band and, more recently, across the U.S., including the Pacific Northwest, as a solo performer.

A national country music award early in her career helped launch a journey that includes appearances at the Kate Wolf Music Festival, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, Strawberry Music Festival, Sisters Folk Festival, and Nashville’s Bluebird Cafe. Her music draws from country, folk, and Americana, with original songs alongside well-loved standards.

Her debut album, A Wild Rose, produced by Mark Schatz, featured Béla Fleck, Alison Krauss, and John Jorgenson. Her most recent release, Just to Hear Your Voice, pairs original songs with interpretations of classics such as “Stardust.”

After years on the club circuit—often playing five sets a night—Ginny devoted a substantial chapter of her career to solo performances in hospitals and residential facilities for seniors and people with disabilities.

Alongside her solo work, she and longtime musical partner Patti Maxine have formed the Honky Tonk Angels, a country swing and boogie band. Ginny is now working on a new album featuring many new songs of her own, a song by her late dear friend, folk icon Mary McCaslin, and selected covers.
